ABOUT JAMES

James Tracey is a film editor based in Toronto, with a background in narrative fiction and multi-camera television. His work has been featured in numerous film festivals around the world, including most notably the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, Raindance and Inside Out Toronto.

James sees himself as a methodical worker, and takes pride in constructing precise and deliberate films in a multitude of genres such as comedy, drama, character pieces, sci-fi, thrillers, children’s television, music videos and others. The films he has worked on have gone on to international acclaim, recently including the film “Soft Spot” which won Best Canadian Short at Inside Out 2019.

James also has experience in other prominent production roles such as director, AD and DMT.

Work with the CFC

After completing his residency at the CFC’s Editor’s Lab in 2016, James has worked closely with the Canadian Film Centre editing numerous showcases for actors, musicians, directors and writers. These showcases often act as a demo/pilot for a particular concept that is intended to be fleshed out into perhaps a longer film/television show. They also often showcase the particular brand of notable up-and-coming actors and musicians in the industry.
